Maiolica Scarf

The pattern on this scarf is taken directly from an early Sixteenth Century Siennese apothecary jar, painted with bands of fantastical animals and ornamentation, now part of the Corcoran’s William Clark Collection. This type of jar, an albarello, could hold almost any type of curative, and its tall, waisted shape made it easy to grasp and remove from a shelf.
