The Paradise Institute
Canadian artist duo Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller have been working together for 15 years. Both artists are interested in the unique visual and acoustical representation of memory, anticipation and reality. This catalogue has been published to coincide with their exhibition at the 49th Venice Biennale, for which they received a special award. In their artwork, the viewer looks at a self-contained miniature of a cinema hall. On the screen, shifted in perspective so that it seems far away, the viewer is then confronted with a huge number of quick narrative shots. With a faux velvet cover that opens like a curtain in an attempt to imitate a cinema screen, this fabulous accompanying catalogue further plays with the cinematic experience. Includes an interview by Brigitte Kölle.
